Mmmm K

I noticed something a tad bit interesting the other day. Well, interesting to me, at least. A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked what type of girl I generally like. I said I really didn't have a set "type" but that I usually am attracted to the cute, quiet ones. But that's not the interesting part. In thinking about the girls I've been attracted to (not just "find pretty", but genuinely attracted to) over the past 10 years or so I noticed a different pattern. I seem to be drawn, for some inexplicable reason, to girls who's name starts with a "hard C" or "K" sound. Not exclusively, mind you. But a significant number . . . Christine (twice), Christina (twice), Khalisa, Ki'ni, Kelly, Kristin, Carmen, Karla, Kristal, Claire, Kalyn. So 13 ladies with "K" sound names. By contrast, in that same time frame, there have been only 4-5 non-"K" girls. Does anyone else find that a little odd?

Hi there!

Yeah, so much for updating more during the semester break, right. Haven't really had much to blog about. Same old crap & frustrations at work and same old depression over my (non-existent) love life. I've been dwelling a lot on the past. Well, a certain someone from my past, to be specific. And it's really not good. I know it does nothing but cause me pain, but can't seem to snap out of it. But I really don't want to gripe about that here . . . no sense in depressing y'all as well. However, last night I stumbled across a quote that actually did start my mind on a better path. "You can't go through life trying to avoid getting a broken heart. If you do, it'll break from loneliness anyway." Who would have thought that Star Trek: DS9 would help set me straight?

Anyway, school starts next week. Which means I need to get started on my reading. Because yes, we already have homework even though it's break. Ain't life grand?

Since I likely won't be posting anything tomorrow, have a fabulously fun (and safe) New Year's.

Party hardy

Liz, Lili, MeMy department "holiday party" was earlier this week. We all went out to Chevy's (at our own expense . . . heaven forbid they actually pay for employees enjoyment) and did a little ornament gift-exchange game thing. Initially, I wasn't planning on going. But on Monday I was informed by a couple co-worker/friends that I was indeed going. Additionally, they were courteous enough to let me know that they were going to be graciously allowing me to buy them a drink. Honestly, I didn't put up much of a fight. They're damn good friends--better than I deserve, I think. They're pretty much the main thing keeping me from going postal at work some times, so it's not like I could really say no to them anyway. Like it or not, they really are my favorite co-workers (but don't tell them that, because Li'l's ego is big enough as is). Anywho, overall I had a good time. I need to socialize more, and these friends are good to hang out with.

Yesterday, a little story about that night was relayed to me, and I just have to share . . . it kind of demonstrates what I've had to put up with, I think. I snapped a couple pictures with my camera phone. While I don't really like the quality of the camera, the phone itself is pretty cool. It's the model Tony Stark uses in Iron Man. So, a couple people wanted to see it. For the default wallpaper, I use a picture of the deer antlers I got on my last trip to Colorado. The boyfriend of one of my co-workers took interest in this, and talked with me a little about hunting. While we were talking, the following conversation took place between his girlfriend & two of the department supervisors . . .

Co-worker: He's really into hunting. Right now he has a rabbit and quail in my freezer.
{boyfriend returns to his seat}
Co-worker: I was just telling them about how you like hunting.
Supervisor #1: She told us what you did to that poor bunny.
Supervisor #2: Yeah, and that whale.
Supervisor #1: She said "quail"--like, the bird.
Supervisor #2: Oh! That makes more sense. I was trying to figure out how he fit it in the freezer.

And it should be noted that Supervisor #2 was drinking soda. Plain soda. Probably diet. But nothing mixed. And this is who leads us on a daily basis.

Mid-terms are next week. This week? Whatever the right phrase is. First one's tomorrow. I feel confident about one, so-so on another, and woefully unprepared for the third. We'll see. But in any case, I can't wait until they're over. ============================================================== I've been studying every night for a couple weeks now, and am getting a little burned out. So I took the weekend off. Part of the plan to relax was to see a movie, and I opted for the one that had the simplest, most non-existent plot of all choices . . . Punisher: War Zone. Since it's part of my required viewing anyway, it made sense to see it. The plot really was weak, which is saying a lot since it's a comic book flick. But the non-stop gun fights, frequent gratuitous violence, and general eye-candyness of Julie Benz as a brunette was pretty much just what I needed. ============================================================== After the movie, I had some shopping to do. One stop was the grocery store for some baking supplies in prep for Christmas. Rounding a corner I (almost literally) bumped into the ex. We chatted briefly. Slightly awkward, but not too bad. I figured it had to happen sooner or later, since we don't live that far apart and I know we shop at several of the same stores. She's cut her hair really short, and I couldn't help but notice how cute she looked. {Sigh} ============================================================== I saw a whole gaggle of wild turkeys today. No idea if that's the right term, but I think it's appropriate. Gaggle of gobblers just sounds right. There had to be at least 25 of them roaming around a school yard. Probably it was their after-Thanksgiving party. ============================================================== I keep thinking I'm just about done with my Christmas shopping, and then realize I left someone out. Last week, I had it down to 2 more gifts. Then it went up to 4. Got it back down to 1. Then today realized it's 3. Hopefully I'll get the right count down soon. ============================================================== They reassigned me at work effective this past week. A few people at work have commented that I seem much happier. What they don't realize is that I'm happier because I've come to the conclusion that I just plain don't give a shit. Honestly, if I did care, I'd probably be so frustrated I would have exploded by now. But I'm just going with the flow, smiling and nodding a lot, and not concerned about the consequences. I'm being thrown into a position where I'm supposed to lead a unit (6 people) in a job I've never done (so they know more about the work than I do) and take over a gigantic mess that involves specific timelines, precise process requirements, irate customers, and the potential to cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars if done incorrectly. All without any effective training. If I last long enough to actually learn the job, I'll probably enjoy it. But after mid-terms, I'll have a few weeks where I can really focus on the job hunt. Hopefully I'll find something. ============================================================== My birthday was last month. I was an absolute total asshole that day. Pretty sure it was the combo of a completely failed love life, job I hate, school stress, and getting older. Seriously, I'm actually a little surprised that certain people are even still talking to me. The one positive thing I have going in my life is good friends, and I'm seriously not afraid to admit here that I cried that night thinking about how shitty I was to some of them. ============================================================== I'm going to try to blog a little more during the break . . . been sorely lacking here primarily due to the lack of time. But if all I have to talk about is griping about work, I'll probably spare you the reading.
