There's a bat in my belfry!
Well, not a bat. And I really don't know what a belfry is and likely don't have one. But there's a bird in my chimney. It must have have fallen in and now can't get back out. I can hear it flapping around in there, and it's quite disturbing. I tried opening the flue to see if it would come down through the fireplace, where I could then take/direct it outside. But it won't come out. There's a bit of a ledge in there where the flue opens, and so he keeps landing there. And of course, it's just out of reach of my arm, but not enough room to maneuver a stick or other instrument. I'm not really sure what's worse . . . hearing the flapping & knowing that the poor thing is going to die in there, or the knowledge that once it does die it'll probably end up smelling for months. Any suggestions on how to remove the problem would be appreciated.
